For so long I have been dreaming of seeing this part of the world and 2018 that dream came true! While it was a quick decision it did feel like months of planning by time we got there and then it went by in the blink of an eye.
During a phone call from my best friend, Alyssa, after her trip to Bali talking about the photos she got there and how she wished I had just been there to do them. Then she mentions she’s going to Greece and asked if I would come there to do their photos? Um let me think about that long and hard…. heck yes!!! So within what felt like seconds my flight was booked!
We spent the next few months looking for the perfect Airbnb and drooling over photos of this gorgeous island. It was a no brainer we wanted to stay in the Oia area as that is where we knew we would get all the perfect photos.
We met up in Athens, I arrived quite late at night and we had to be at the airport for 5am for our flight to Santorini. The early flight would be worth it because then we have an entire day in Santorini to explore and find all the locations we want for photos. Well the weather had other plans, it was so windy and cold (this coming from a Canadian girl so trust me!). After our breakfast wine (because mimosas were about $27cdn) we walked around to explore until we were just too cold to handle it. Then it was to the room to warm up and start steaming clothes for their photoshoot the next day. You guys, we missed the ONLY sunset on our stay because we had so much steaming to do and it was so cold! So things don’t always go as planned but we still had so much to look forward to and the sunrise the next morning made up for that!
We made a last minute decision to start the photo session about 3 hours early as there was now rain in the forecast and this would be the only sunlight we got for the remainder of the time in Santorini. It wasn’t overly busy as we were here in low season so that helped a lot with being able to quickly shoot in all our top spots we wanted to get! I literally felt like a spider monkey all over the place on this island climbing on little walls here and stairways there, it was incredibly exhilarating! Now we strategically planned to do the first 2 outfits closer to our room and then save the gorgeous Lulu dress outfit for our last location which was a further walk so that we could make the most of this 2.5 hour shoot! Yes you just read that… 2.5 hour photoshoot… I mean we were only there once and only had sun for such a short time before the rain. So props to Kevin for keeping it together for so long and putting up with all the “ok just one more” moments!
During our location scouting we had 3 local dogs following us, they were the most well behaved dogs I have ever seen. They would wait outside the stores for us and just loved being around us. During our photoshoot they found us so needless to say I had to get a few of our newly adopted travel pets!
